Management – Film review

Posted by realitypod on March 31, 2009

management
If there is a picture to describe the word “dysfunctional”, I would love to see it. Well now you can, Jennifer Aniston & Steve Zahn present to you “Management.”
First off I thought this was a very moving flick and I was almost tearful at the end. I loved the way this film portrays dysfunctional characters and shows the inability to connect with others. Jennifer’s world of normality sees fault in others, and thinks other people have problems connecting, when actually it’s her own world that needs meaning. I thought Steve Zahn played his role with depths, colour and you grow to love him overtime. Yes he plays a very strange role and his father hardly has the will to live. It’s not until each character is pushed to the edge, do we see some really emotional stuff coming out and hollywood truly comes into its own! Go and see this movie, It’s about real people having real relationships. For more info check out:-

Enjoy!

Marley & Me

Posted by realitypod on March 25, 2009

I am still developing the video channel on realitypod.tv in the background, so I haven’t had time to do proper reviews of these films, in the way I want to. I will have some shows properly done for you over the next few weeks. So in the mean time, I want to put this out for you all to see.

Marley & Me is a massive feel good film which takes you on a journey through, Love, passion and a young adult couple in the early rocky stages of their relationship. The funny thing is that their dog Marley teaches them in their relationship… This is definitely worth going down to the local cinema and purchasing a ticket to see on a big screen.

Jennifer Aniston has done it again, with her new film Marley & Me. It has stormed into the number 1 spot taking £3.5 million over the three day opening weekend. This makes it the biggest theatrical opening release of 2009.

This film is based on John Grogan’s memoir of life with his yellow Labrador retriever Marley, the film draws on anecdotes from Marley’s 13-year life of wreaking havoc on the Grogan household. Directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) starring Jennifer Aniston (Bruce Almighty, The Break Up), Owen Wilson (You, Me and Dupree, The Darjeeling Limited), Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy, X-Men: The Last Stand), and Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine, Rendition).

Enjoy!

Video advertising network

Posted by realitypod on March 25, 2009

On my search for a video advertising network, I came across a network that offers a great solution for both publishers and advertisers. They offer a service for online video channels thatutarget will pay you to advertise on your website. What’s great about it is, I don’t need to go out and find advertisers and they will pay me directly. I think that’s a pretty good deal. The second service they offer is, you can advertise on their network. Utarget will publish the advert across 600 publishers. This means that if you have a specific products that you want to promote, they have the audience. Your product or service could be a film, a retails store, a designer, a beauty product, or anything you can think of. Its a Cost Per Click model CPC, which means that if anyone clicks on the advert then you will get paid. I personally like this model, as I don’t need to pay any money upfront to anyone, or do I have to find any advertisers.

Enjoy!

Why can I see black bars on my web video?

Posted by realitypod on March 16, 2009

If you watch some of the clips on youtube.com you will see black bars on either side of the video.

In my opinion it’s not a great look to see these massive black bars on the sides. I prefer to see the video content in full across the whole screen. Unless your trying to go for that epic film look, you will want the black bars going across the top and bottom of the video. Like this:-

So what can we do about? and why is this happening to me?

OK so, in standard video we have 5 common aspect ratios. 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 1:85:1 and 2.39:1. The TV standard is broadcasted in 4:3 which gives this look in the first video. The other popular standard is 16:9. Which gives a much wider screen and to me it’s much more pleasing on the eye!

The problem arises when a camera shoots footage in 4:3 and then the footage is imported into a 16:9 timeline. A video timeline, allows your video clips to play in a sequence editing application like Final Cut Pro or Premier. Once it’s encoded into a web format like quicktimes .mov or Adobe’s flash you get that lovely black bars look in your video.

To stop it, either film in 16:9 and make sure your timeline is in 16:9 or film 4:3 and again the timeline in 4:3.

I hope this helps!

Signing off.

Traitor – Film Trailer

Posted by realitypod on March 12, 2009

This amazing action packed thriller was first presented by Steve Martin to Producer David Hoberman.. When David visualized Martin’s idea of a former U.S operative who goes on the run, Hoberman knew exactly who was going to develop the script! Welcome Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who wrote The Day after Tomorrow.

Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle, Guys Pearce, Jeff Daniels, Archie Panjabi , Said Taghmaoui, Neal Mc Donough & Alyy Khan star in the blinding thriller and keep us on our toes until the very end!

An FBI agent played by Guy Pearce, leads an investigation to which a dangerous international conspiracy is slowly being revealed. Don Cheadle (Samir Horn) is starting to become the number 1 suspect in this complex web of international connections.

OK, thats all I’m going to say, the movies release date is the 27th March 2009.

Traitor is a MUST SEE for anyone who loves to catch a slickly produced hair gripping movie. We will look back in time and say “Do you remember Traitor? What a rush!”

For all you video editors out there, Billy Fox edited Traitor in Final Cut Pro!

Enjoy!

SEO Video!

Posted by realitypod on March 11, 2009

If you are looking to get your content published on to the web, and need a browser based video publisher to help upload, managed and store your content then we are not stuck for choice. We have brightcove, ooyala,(which I use on MK Productions ), best-tv, kit digital, Narrowstep, vidzapper and a load of others.

I covered this topic a while back, but I have just come across another site, which has some really useful information. It covers the players in much more detail than I would on realitypod.tv. So I’m in a sharing mood. This site has some great information about, video SEO, covered by seomoz.org It answers questions, on “how we as content creators get ranked in search engines?”. Hmm.. great tip! & great company!

Transcoding Services

Posted by realitypod on March 10, 2009

origindigital1

It’s not a new technology by any means, but I was looking for a service that can deliver the Youtube.com type service (transcoding) for one of my clients on their site. By this I mean upload videos, in any format. quicktimes .mov, MPEG4, AVi, flv (flash), windows media, wmv or Real media and transcode them into Adobes flash .ftv format. They wanted a browser based solution so they could see the ingest of videos and managed what files go onto the network for delivery. This works with a CDN or content Delivery Services. I came across a company called Origin Digital. They are calling themselves a video Application Services Provider. It’s fairly well priced and if your a high traffic site, I highly recommend them!

Sorry to get so techie on you guys, but it’s quite an important part of the whole social network aspect of a video publishing websites. It makes your website much more interactive if the user can upload content to your site and then share that video within the networks.

There are quite a few transcoding services on the market, like rip code. Ripcode have produced a serious video introducing the service. I’m actually a little scared of him, Still he talks about the market in great detail and it really helps you to get a good understanding of this growth market. Check it out below.

Have fun!

jules.tv

Posted by realitypod on March 8, 2009

julesI was surfing the web last night, YES I know that may sound a little sad, but I was “deep deep deep” into finding new websites and entertainment, as I constantly need more and better entertainment.  I came across a site called jules.tv,  Jules is someone with good humor, multi-talented and plenty of ideas. What he offers is some really good advice to people who want to climb the difficult ladder of the TV industry. Jules.tv also has camera reviews and some light entertainment. It looks like he’s from a video production background and has worked for all the major broadcasters, BBC, Channel4 and ITV. This is a beautiful way of  using this platform to crank up his SEO and exposing him around the web as a video producer, director, editor and cameraman. The site is very slick and is packed with links to other videos and advice. Jules.tv  has done a fantastic job and I would love to link up with him, as he seems so so talented.

Enjoy!

Screens everywhere

Posted by realitypod on March 6, 2009

A while back I discussed the future of digital screensScreen anyone” and how they will impact our culture.

Well the market in North America is worth $4 billion. It’s starting to take similar shape in the UK! This market is starting to be called the “out-of-home advertising market.”

There is an event at Olympia on the 7th – 8th April 2009 This event should be amazing for anyone who is looking to supply this growth market. You maybe be an Advertising agency, a Film distributor, a PR company or even a crazy digital agency!
