I came across a little known director, who’s first short film has stood out from the crowd, So far this film has been selected for the Marbella film festival and various independent film screening venues like the Roxy Screening Bar and Kino London.
I have included a trailer below “Frame of Mind”
“Frame of mind” is a visual short film based on a true story. A story of the unexpected romantic encounter of a boy and a girl. An almost forgotten way of flirting…….
Over the last few months I have been searching for some film music to use in my films. This has not been as an easy task,as internet sites are mainly selling royalty free compilation CD’s or sample libraries with albums of sub standard music, being completely honest they all sound a bit naff.
I came across a talented musician called Robin Lee, who is also one half of the british dance music duo Faze Action consisting of brothers Simon and Robin Lee. We had been chatting about music for films and he enthusiastically said he’s has an albums worth ready to go… Given that Robin taught himself to play bass and studied music at Goldsmith College and I was a big fan of Faze Action, I’m personally really excited about what he has to offer.
I am uploading this piece with the permission of Robin, to give people a flavour of his unquestionable talent for producing music for film.
This is a floating orchestral piece with heavy strings and hypnotic piano which moves you into an intense emotional dramatic state; perfect for a scene that is about to take you on a journey or an inciting incident which kicks the story into motion.
What is important when looking for film music is that it compliments your film. You have to ask yourself questions such as, does this track give me the suspense, tension, mystery, surprise or even romance I’m looking for to fit with the scene of the film? Music plays a massive part in films and I strongly believe that the two should not be without each other. This piece hits the nail on the head and should give you a strong idea of what Robin has in-store for us in the future.
Paul Andrew Williams, is a very interesting up and coming British Director for me. He makes choices in this film that are reflective of today’s british culture and raw in terms of putting together a film which has thrown together a working middle class family and todays street gang culture. Except the gang are uninvited and completely unexpected.
It’s is essentially about a family who’s son gets involved in gang culture. Their son has done something which has made the gang leader mad! The gang bust into their house hold and physically, emotionally destroy this family. It has a really good unexpected twist at the end, which leaves you with a few unanswered questions!!
Given the script and the location i think it’s cleverly put together and not for the faint hearted as this is a good british horror opening the imagination and giving us an insight as to what is happening in Britain today.
Verdict? – Go seek out!!
Paul Andrew Williams, is the man behind films such as London To Brighton and The Cottage
Over the last few weeks it has been noted that the new coalition government is to axe the UK Film council. Their position is that we spend way to much on it’s administration and the money could be best suit to go directly to the film makers. The film council has had many successes and I am sure it will be truly missed at a time when our industry is in radical change and due to the digital roll-out.
I received an email from the UK Film council concerning the future, please see below:-
We have a received an overwhelming number of emails from people in the the industry concerned about the future of funding for film in the UK and asking if they can make their views known. We thought it might be helpful to let you know that there are two social networking pages which have been set up independently of the UK Film Council. There are already 9,370 signatures to date attached to an online petition and a facebook page has received 14,771 visits.

Hi All, I am soooo sorry for not updating my site, I have been locked away in the studio developing a little film that I wrote and directed called “Blind Love”. This is the first film, I have produced from beginning to end, so seeing it come alive in the editing suit is amazing. It should be ready to show the world in the next month or so. I am just tweeking it, grading and adding the music to it at the moment.. So hence the reason for my lack of film reviews and not keeping you up to date with what’s happening in the film world. Give me a wee while and I will surely be back and keeping you updated. 😉
